Lisbon is in a jam. Beautiful and charming but broke, the city needs investments but not the ones ruining everything.
Lisboa makes time perceptible. Though it is sad to see a grand city like Lisbon decaying, it’s also very inspirational. Real jewels never lose their shine. Unless of course, once the current lull makes space for new up-winds and the wrong kind of investors populate the stage. As we know from other parts of the world, there is a possibility that greed and nastiness win over sense and respect.
But here is a chance to approach things differently, respect the history and preserve what this Atlantic crown jewel has to offer. Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world, and the oldest in Western Europe, predating other modern European capitals such as London, Paris and Rome by centuries. Julius Caesar made it a “municipium” called Felicitas Julia, adding to the name “Olissipo”.
