Sex-Appeal: The quality of being sexually and intellectually attractive
The annual “Silvretta Classic Cars Rally”, which takes place every July in Austria, is a great opportunity to recall what was once common on our streets: sex-appeal in car design.
Comparing these fabulously elegant, slick, simple and inovative designs with what is rolling around today, one can’t help thinking that something has gone terribly wrong.
While you were once able to choose from a whole pool of designs and styles and characteristics in driving behavior, you nowadays find yourself facing a pabulum of feel- and look-a-likes.
And don’t try to tell me that today’s car design failures are all related to the current state of affairs in safety, aerodynamics or energy efficiency technology. Where there is a will there is a way and looking at old master’s work won’t hurt a bit. [Part II]
