THE HANGING PROCEDURE
"Rimless plate", a group show dedicated to the open mind, opened on June 7th, 2019 at Künstlerhaus Bregenz in Austria. My exhibit consisted of two interconnected parts, a digital print and a photographic installation, both measuring 192 x 92 x 12 cm. The installation was constructed of 285 Instax 8 Polaroid portraits which I selected from roughly 1200 shots, spanning over a period of ten years. Each Polaroid got punched four times and hooked up with it's neighboring images via chrome split rings which were tightened with pliers. The corresponding digital print "Voyagers" contained the core message and a QR code which lead directly to this website where larger views of each image can be viewed. The show closed on June 26th, 2019 and was part of Mathias Kessler's Cul-De-Sac "Interruption".

COLLECTION

Information

“Voyagers – Instant Encounters” is a portrait of man. A random slice of it at least but also a definite proof of the existence of variation. Raw and true in the moment, I spontaneously portray, mostly strangers but also friends of course, who happen to cross my way. The ability to get the momentum while communicating and building trust plays a vital part in the short time one can gain access to an individual’s soul. Photographed with Instax’s Polaroid, I later scan each image in high-resolution but without further digitally editing it.

Getting as close to the quality and look & feel of the original situation is essential. This collection is constantly changing and growing but by no means is there a chronological or any other kind of order. What really matters is the magic moment which occurs, when paths cross and good energy flows. “You may be black, you may be white; you may be Jew or Gentile. It don’t make a difference in our house. And this is fresh.” (Chuck Roberts, My house, 1987)
